• First raw import into Targetware for the A-29 Hudson bomber (with bombardier and two gunner positions); see Gallery for screenshots

Fall, 2006

• Two more planes, and one ship enter development:

1) The IJN G3M Nell bomber, in at least two variants: the Model 21 with 7.7mm turrets and the Model 22, with a 20mm rear "stinger" in a turtleback turret and side blisters. This plane's claim to fame was as a principle participant in the sinking of Force Z (the HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales in December, 1941.

2) The Seversky P-35A, the USAAC's first all metal monoplane fighter. A forerunner of the P-47 series (by way of the P-43 Lancer), a squadron of these fighters fought the initial Japanese invasion of Luzon in the Phillipines in December, 1941.

3) The HMS Prince of Wales. The ill-fated centerpiece of British task force Force Z, she and the HMS Repulse were sunk off Malaya by long ranging Nell torpedo and level bombers from Saigon. This critical blow to British hopes in Singapore signalled the beginning of the end for the Dutch East Indies in the earliest salvoes of the Pacific War.

August, 2006

• The Target:Corregidor domain is reserved, and this site appears online for the first time. Many thanks to Federico “Vespa” Villa for the inspirational design work he did on the Target:Tobruk site; these ideas were used as a visual template for the design of these pages.

Summer, 2006

• Work intensifies on the terrain. Taking advantage of help from the Targetware forums on making, placing and aligning custom terrain tiles, the first custom airfields begin to appear on the map: the circular Kallang Airport at the southern tip of Singapore and the 6-strip Clark AFB complex north of Manila.

• More on the terrain: "oscoog" releases some updated jungle and other ecology textures, and Target:Corregidor decides to standardize these, much better-looking tiles. A few more “ugly stepchildren” remain to be purged, and the entire tile set needs some color correction for proper co-existence on the same map.

• A new aircraft appears on the Target:Corregidor horizon: the much maligned Brewster Buffalo. Work begins on two versions of the plane: the 339E, which the British and RAAF used over Singapore and Malaya, and the US Navy F2A3, which saw action at Midway in June 1942. The latter version is being made at the request of "Fujita", who is working up a ‘mod-let’ called Target:Midway.

February, 2006

• We are attempting to create a player-operated, animated MkIX bombsight for use on the Hudson bomber (and also the Blenheim bomber, as well as other British bombers that used it). Simon "Bomber" Morley has volunteered to lend a hand with the animation and player interface.

• Target:Corregidor is announced as a forthcoming Mod on the Target:Tobruk Forums.

• The Phillipines & Dutch East Indies terrain is created using Targetware MapMaker, GTOPO data and a bit of help from Targetware terrain gurus Oscoog, snafu, GH_Leiste, Jedi and others. Thanks to all of you!

Most terrain is derivative from Target:Rabaul, since the tropical landscape is pretty much the same in this part of the world. So, most of the same terrain textures will be borrowed from that mod. Some new fields and installations will be custom designed, including:

  • Corregidor Island
  • Clark AF
  • Cavite Naval Yard
  • Singapore Airfields: Sembawang, Seletar, & Tengah

January, 2006

• Targetware announces more detailed plans for mod creation, and invites interested parties to set up a Forum area on the Targetware Forum Sites. Target:Corregidor and Target:Air Combat are the first two mods to debut in this fashion.

Fall, 2005

• Nate models get a much needed facelift, courtesy of 2 skins from Targetware contributor extraordinaire ebola-

• Work continues on the Hudson III bomber. We got some great photographic resources and help from an enthusiast group in New Zealand who is helping restore a Hudson bomber. As a tip of the cap to these fine gentlemen, it is decided to create the first Hudson skin as RAAF No. 2 Squadron Hudson A16-112. Martin "MP" Peters volunteers to create the first skin.

Inside the bomber model, we began to really revisit this long dormant 3D model, shoring up some inaccuracies and finishing the crew areas. A Bolton-Paul turret was reworked from scratch (using photo help from our New Zealander friends!), and plans are made to have both the turret and ventral hatch gunners as player-controllable stations.

• Initial concept for Target:Corregidor is decided upon. New planes (already in 3D and 2D design stages) slated to kick off T:C:

  • Japanese Army Ki-27 Type 97 Fighter (code name: Nate) A (Ko) and B (Otsu) versions
  • Japanese Navy A5M4 Type 96 Fighter (code name: Claude)
  • Lockheed A-29 Hudson Mark III Bomber
  • Brewster Buffalo 339B (RAF version E)
  • G3M2 and G2M3 Type 97 IJN Bomber (Nell)
