Target:Corregidor FAQ
A: There was a lot of action. The Dutch East Indies were vital to the Japanese concept of the Greater Asian Co-Prosoerity Sphere, and was rich with tin, oil, rubber and other resources that the Japanese home islands lacked. Also, the area was dominated by the British and Dutch, so Japanese dominance in the area was a pre-requisite to Japanese aspirations to be a world power. So, the area featured campaigns in Malaya, the Phillipines, Java, Borneo, and major early sea battles as well. Q: How balanced are the aircraft matchups? A: In the initial stages of the conflict, the Japanese definitely had the upper hand, pitting high-performance Ki-43 and Ki-27 fighters against Brewster Buffaloes that were deemed "good enough" for this theatre against what were expected to be low-quality 'Japanese knockoffs' of western aircraft design concepts. However, in the latter stages of the Malaya/Singapore campaign, the RAF and RAAF forces received Hurricanes, and even a few shipments of P-40s, whch arrived a bit too late to turn the tide. In Java, the US had numbers of P-40s as well, which proved effective against the same Japanese aerial lineup in China (under the auspices of the famed Flying Tigers). Another point to stress is that the scenario and campaign design will make even a "cakewalk" by Japanese forces far from a fait accompli for the IJA/N players in the early going. They will be required to win handily every sortie in order to "win" at the game. Also, if there was a disparity in plane quality early on, it was more than reversed by 1944, when Hellcats, Helldivers, and other late-war U.S. Iron decimated the IJA/IJN forces in the Marianas Turkey Shoot, the Battle of the Phillipines Sea, the Battle of Leyte Gulf and in large scale aerial tilts over Formosa. Similarly, victory conditions will reflect the expectation that the US forces rack up impressive kill ratios vs. Imperial Japanese forces in later war scenarios and campaigns. Q: Why hasn't Target:Corregidor been released to beta? Development is now centering on the all-new terrain for the rather expansive Dutch East Indies and Phillipines area. And, for the early part of the war, new planes not yet seen in Targetware skies are being developed. Also, the team is awaiting the possible appearance of Targetware v0.65, which promises exciting new possibilities in how scenarios and campaigns run. If TW 0.65 is not imminent by the time most of the new aircraft and the terrain are completed, then the design team may well decide to write a batch of scenarios using the current Targetware scenario system and launch the mod with these. Q: Can I help in developing Target:Corregidor? Certainly. The design team can use all kinds of help, especially 2D artists who are gifted in creating textures for aircraft, terrain and even ground objects. Volunteer by contacting the Dev Team leader or posting on the Target:Corregidor Forum. Q: What is Targetware? This question is perhaps best answered at the Targetware home page. Suffice it to say that Targetware is an open-source flight simulation system that seeks highly realistic environments and campaigns, played out online by players. Also, Targetware is designed to allow the players and enthusiasts themselves build the campaigns, the environments and the aircraft they want to see. They can host their own servers (from the Targetware metaserver) that reflect their vision of how a flight sim should be. Plus, the Targetware system is not limited to only flight: possibilities exist for land-based vehicle combat, ship to ship sea battles and more. As it is in an extended beta and development period, Targetware is totally free of charge: the software is a free download, and there is no fee for access to the metaserver, from which all Targetware online servers run. It is expected that, at some point, Targetware will require a low monthly subscription fee that will give a player complete access to any and all Targetware mods. Targetware will offer the broadest array of quality flight simulations, across the widest time frame: from WWI and the dawn of aerial combat through to the 1960s Vietnam war...and possibly beyond. Nowhere else will you be able to launch one simulator and sample action from the Brown vs. Richthofen duel through the Linebacker campaigns in Vietnam, with exhilarating stops over London, Berlin, Warsaw, Malta, N. Africa, Korea, Rabaul, and many other pivotal aerial hotspots along the way. Q: What aircraft and ships are unique to Target:Corregidor? Initially, Target:Corregidor will unveil 5 new aircraft that are unique to it:
Also, a few new ships will also be new to T:C:
There may be some late-war additions, as well, but it is also possible that these will be produced in the Target:Rabaul mod and ported into T:C.
